There was a time when I was living "A thousand boring days."
Now, was it a thousand days or year or so that were boring? I have no idea.
I remember saying, "Just another boring day," in response to how was your day.
I'd wake up, get breakfast and lunch together for the husband, and he'd leave the house. The dog and I would head to my office upstairs and I'd work on something – maybe a website or a book or the Denver Cereal.
I'd work until noon. The dog and I would head down to make lunch. We'd eat outside or go for a walk, then it was back to the office and work.
I'd start dinner around three. The husband would come home around 7 p.m. We'd eat, read, go to bed, and the entire thing would start over again. Every Wednesday afternoon, I worked in the garden and with our beehives.
"Is it okay to have a boring day?" the husband asked a few times.
"Sure," I'd say. "At some point, the days will be full and not boring. It's okay to have a thousand boring days."
As you can imagine, a thousand boring days sounds like a dream right now.
The city's vigorous pesticide program killed the bees. We got hacked, and my computers were destroyed. The dog died. We got chaos agents, Cassie and Dottie. My office moved into the dining room. Then 10 years of surgeries began with x-rays, doctors, nurses, medications, and a lot of vomit. The garden was scraped.
The politics changed, too. A chaos merchant was elected and then came the pandemic. Then there was a change. When chaos had finally seemed abated, the chaos merchant was elected. Again.
Life is not boring. Chaos continues to rip through the entire country.
What can I do to create and maintain order in my life?
Honestly? I have no idea.
Right now, I'm attempting to swim every day. Yoga every day. I attempt to eat well. I'm taking classes in Ancient Egypt from Dr. Campbell Prince and Dr. Nicky Nielsen. I'm also studying dark matter.
My desk, now located in the basement, is small and piled with papers. Books are stacked around. It's a mess.
The garden is bare. We need to take down the fruit trees, which feed the squirrels and not us.
So, we're putting in gardens again with the hope of being able to grow extra for our neighbors and the food banks.
I'm hoping to find or build a perfect desk and move it to this new location. There's space for a desk and shelving. It's a time, pain level, and money situation.
I'm increasing my work on books in an attempt to catch up a bit in a variety of series. I've retreated from a lot of social media platforms.
We're reverting to our broke diet which in tails a lot of beans and rice. That should give us some flexibility in our budget. Anything extra, we put away since the "rainy days" are here.
We have a lot of house projects that we need to finish or give up and hire someone to finish.
Will I have boring days when everything is more organized?
Probably not. At least for now, it keeps me focused on what I can do instead of this chaos that's out of my control.
If you have suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments. If you're in the same boat, what are you doing?
