Avoiding people.

Chicken on fire

Are there people you avoid?

I avoid a few.

Usually they are people who have hurt me.  They might know they've behaved badly or be completely oblivious to it.  Most of the time it's the later.  People who behave so badly, for years, that they are accustomed to being rude, obnoxious or saying whatever nasty or crude thing that comes out of their mouth.

Yes, I could stand up for myself.  I could tell them to behave themselves, stop acting like children or even spout out a "how dare you!".  I want to, but I don't.

I avoid them instead.

I thought it was just me until I read this article.  (How to Avoid, Well You, NY Times)  At least I learned to nod and smile when I'm stuck dealing with a cretin.  Smile, nod, move on. This poor guy found himself hiding behind a rack of clothing.

I haven't done that.

Yet.
