Simply Kind : Week 9 : A break

I’m not one for vacations.
Honestly, I can’t remember the last one I took.
But my kindness for this week is for myself.  I’m going to take a break from the blog for a couple of days.
No drama. No problems. Just a break.
I’ve missed so much of your lives in the last year. I need to [...]

Simply Kind Tuesdays : Week 8 : To say or not to say.

Some times, telling the truth is the kindest thing you can do. It’s hard when the truth is unpleasant. However, it’s possible that a person needs the kindness of that truth.
And some times, it’s best to keep your mouth shut. Smile, nod, and go about your business.
The ’say or not to say’ dilemma comes to [...]

Simply Kind Tuesdays - Week 7 : Cookie anyone?

“Oh my God, please don’t give me all of those cookies!”
Be honest. How many times have you thought this, but said instead:
“Gosh, thank you so very much! You are too kind.”
This year, we are accepting the cookies with abandon, then spread the cookie love.
We made truffles, peppermint bark and, of course, cookies. We are sending [...]

Simply Kind Tuesdays : Week 6 - Why bother?

“Why bother with kindness? I mean really. Being kind won’t make you rich. Look at Paris Hilton. She’s not even a very nice person and she’s super rich.”
“She’s a HILTON,” I said. “She was born super rich.”
“Still. In this economy, I have to look after my bottom line. Period.”

Why bother with kindness?
I bother with kindness because [...]

Simply Kind Tuesdays : Week 5 - Screwed.

Last week, I contracted with a woman to create a book cover for the Denver Cereal. I was very excited about this woman. She had just the experience I thought I needed and said she wanted to get into doing book covers. I waited three weeks until she was free. In my mind, we’d work [...]

Simply Kind Tuesdays : Week 4 - Those voices.

“”We can drop the fundamental hope that there is a better “me” who one day will emerge.”
–Pema Chodron
Let’s face it.
Everyone has a voice inside their head that says awful things. No human being is spared. The methods to tame this voice as so varied that entire bookstores are filled with suggestions.
And none of them work.

For decades [...]

Simply Kind Tuesday, Week 2 : Kind words.

It happened again.
I said, “this” and they heard “that.”  They were so upset that they worried about it all night.
I was lucky. They trusted me enough to tell me they were upset.  Gratefully, we cleared up the matter fairly easily.
Still, imagine my chagrin!  I was heart broken to learn that I had so egregiously offended [...]

Thursday Thirteen: Thoughts on Kindness

Getting ready for Simply Kind Tuesdays, a new meme for Tuesdays (click here for more information), I ran across a number of quotes and thoughts about kindness.  I thought I would share them with you here.
1.  ”Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindnes causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate.” — [...]

A little kindness?

KIND (adj.)

chiefly dialect : affectionate , loving
a: of a sympathetic or helpful nature b: of a forbearing nature : gentle c: arising from or characterized by sympathy or forbearance <a kind act>
of a kind to give pleasure or relief
–Merriam-Webster

I love looking up words.  Merriam-Webster dilligently tells me that kind means affectionate or loving.  It also tells me that ‘kind’ is an adjective.
To me, kind is a way of life. [...]

Daily tasks.

“A small daily task, if it be really daily,
will beat the labours of a spasmodic Hercules.”
