“You cannot play with the animal in you without becoming wholly animal,
play with falsehood without forfeiting your right to truth,
play with cruelty without losing your sensitivity of mind.
He who wants to keep his garden tidy doesn’t reserve a plot for weeds.”
Dag Hammarskjsld
1905-1961, Swedish secretarial general of the United Nations.
It’s very simple.
What you put out, comes back to you.
What happens when your government tortures people on your behalf? We can only expect to suffer.
That’s just how life works.
Those tortured will heal. They will recover. They may or may not even remember what happened.
Will we?
The world needs our kindness. Possibly now more than ever before.

You are absolutely correct. There is no excuse for torture.
The government of cheney and bush may have tortured foriegn souls captured as they prosecuted their little war but let’s not forget they tortured the American citizen in general for eight un-remitting years.
I think it good that President Obama is staying a step away from this issue and allowing the legislative branch to investigate and possibly prosecute the actions of the former executive…that in and of itself could be the kindest thing to happen.
Truth is its own balm.
More people should remember that….I know a whole lot of people that believe you get what you give when it affects them positively, but not when they are behaving like jerks and idiots.
CEO – We lose more than we will ever gain, that’s for sure.
TWMark – I hope you’re right. I’ve wanted to see Bush up on crimes against humanity for about… 6 years.
Perpstu – Isn’t that fascinating? I can’t tell you how many times I had that conversation with clients.
