Giant trees.

The problem with being a human being is that we get in our own way. When challenged, many of us roll over and play dead.  What if you were a 2,000 year old tree?   Richard Preston shares the Northern California rain forest, my heart’s true home, and it’s fabulous trees. This video is 19.31 minutes long and soooooo worth it.

You must see these trees.

Wow, Claudia – thanks for posting that. It made me feel a heartbeat away from my friend Pam, who passed away this July. She was a passionate advocate for the Acadian oldgrowth forest here in eastern Canada. She would probably have known of these Redwood climbers. She’s now buried at the foot of an old hemlock on her friends’ woodlot.

Those treeboats looked otherwordly. And they are, aren’t they?

TWMark – I love these trees. Just touching one is an amazing experience. They are so alive, and still.

Topsurf – :) Glad you enjoyed it

Julia – I’m glad I could bring a little bit of your friend back. I am sorry for your loss.

Trees — someday we will learn to love them for more than 2x4s and paper.

My hubby and I drove from Oakland, to Napa Valley and then along the Lost Coast up to the Redwoods in northern CA on our way through the southern OR coast and interior before ending in Olympic in WA and flying home from Seattle. It took us forever to get out of CA because we were in awe of those beautiful trees. Everytime I saw a logging truck in WA I cried. See, blogging helps save paper every minute!
