It’s a story that is so very strange that if I wrote it?? You would never believe it. My IR and Reviewer G would scream at me.

Here goes:

1. Wife Nelson had an affair with Husband Garraus and became pregnant. At Husband Garraus’s insistence, she had an abortion. After her abortion, she had her one and only conversation with Heather Garraus.
2. Wife and Husband Nelson work at the Sheriffs office. Husband Nelson was a Sheriff while Wife Nelson was a dispatcher. Husband Nelson has multiple affairs and Wife Nelson continues with Husband Garraus and begins an affair with Girlfriend Moore.
3. Wife Nelson becomes pregnant with Husband Garraus baby, again. Husband and Wife Nelson decide to raise the baby.
4. Wife Nelson and her Girlfriend Moore plan murder of Heather Garraus. According to Girlfriend Moore, Wife Nelson made the plans while she just “listened”. (WHAT??)
5. Wife Nelson tells a number of Sheriff’s dispatchers that she “envisions” killing Heather Garraus. She even sees Heather‘s face when she target practices.
6. Husband Garraus ends affair with Wife Nelson in December and hires an attorney to keep Wife Nelson away from him.
7. Husband Garraus decides to “look into” ending his parental rights or get custody of baby – both are said, both reported.
8. Wife Nelson dresses in Husband Nelson’s clothing, including his underwear, then shoots Heather Garraus in the back of the head two times at close range.

Ok, that’s weird, evil. Right? It gets weirder.

1. Husband Nelson hears 911 call and knows that Wife Nelson killed Wife Garraus. He leaves the station with his partner to check on his 3 children (including baby Garraus/Nelson). He believes children are dead.
2. Wife Nelson pulls up next to Husband Nelson.
3. Husband Nelson freaks out, jumps out of the car and starts pounding on Wife Nelson’s car screaming “What did you do?” Then takes evidence from the car and destroys it.
4. And everyone, except Husband Garraus, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
5. Everyone makes a plea bargain except…

Wife Nelson waits for the jury’s answer. She says she’s innocent.

OH, one more thing? Wife and Husband Nelson are still married. After all, there are the kids to think of….

UPDATE: Wife Nelson was convicted of first degree murder this morning. She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

“You carried out this crime with great planning and deliberation,” Weld County District Judge Roger Klein told Nelson, seated at the defendant’s table. “Heather Garraus did not deserve to die.”

UPDATE (3/13/08): Charges dropped against Husband Nelson.? Even though, he admits to tampering with evidence;? even though, he impeded the investigation; even though he was a SHERIFF at the time,? he gets off.? Great.? Just great.
