Work out.
Here’s the short list of why I work out:
1. It keeps the pain monster at bay. Two herniated discs in my neck? I think that says it all.
2.
+ Dancing all night = Core Strength. (Yes, that’s right. I wear these 3 1/2 inch heels.)
3. The dream of a four pack turning into a six pack. We can dream.
4. Beekeeping. A full hive deep weighs at least 65 pounds. A “super” filled with honey for eating weights about 40 pounds. The rock only weighs about a half a pound.

6. I shop at Costco where they pack those boxes absolutely full. Lifting weights allows me to actually take the groceries from the cart and put them in the truck. I don’t have any idea what the flabby do.
7. My best friend, B., and I worked out at university so we have all these “inside” jokes.
Here’s one. You know the guys who grunt and moan while they are working out. Grunt, slam, strut. We used to call those Betty’s as in Betty Weider working out with her husband .
8. I am physically able to ski, backpack, walk, run, move boxes, work on the house, pick up my nieces and nephew, and play.
9. People don’t tend to hassle a girl with 16 inch biceps. Would you?
10. I like being firm.

Working out really keeps the pain at bay. If I go a week without, I start to feel all kinds of little pains in my back. I need the workout. And it does help with the Costco shopping. I feel so empowered when I’m loading up my van, just tossing those boxes in, not to mention the 50lb bag of dog food.
Nila - You rock! I can just see you hefting that 50 pound bag of dog food.
When faced with a girl with 16 inch biceps the only verb that comes to mind is “obey”
Moobsy - You say the sweetest things.
Good for you! The problem with pain is (obviously) that it makes it more difficult to exercise. Sometimes I give in to it, other times not.
When I had horses, I used to heft hay bales and 5-pound bags of feed. It was cheaper in 100-pound bags, but I weighed less than 100 myself, so I had to pay more for it.
I’m glad you and your biceps get the respect you deserve.
Heart in SF - Hay bales and feed are heavy - good for you. I find that there’s a delicate balance between pain and working out. Like a ball rolling, I just have to get started, past the pain, then I feel better. I always hope to continue, but life gets in the way.
Why I don’t work out
1) I’d rather smoke
2) 4 fused verts in my neck and two misaligned healed fractures in said neck and now two more herniated discs in same neck…yes it is a pain in the neck
3) 2 fused verts in lower back that were doing fine until they sent me to PT for the neck
4) I can heft whatever amount of weight I set my mind too even if it leaves me in pain for a few hours
5) We grocery shop at stores not warehouses
6) It may prolong life and that is not a good goal for a human
7) it may kill you sooner than if you were more sedate
9) After a life time of fights and altercations of various sorts and a whole lifetime of living IN the City of Detroit; no 16 inch guns don’t scare me as much as a Glock 9mm would scare you.
10) and finally well at my age, i’d rather write than try to exercise
Peace
