Pam Reed? Desperate?
I received an email from ultramarathoner Pam Reed. She told me that she was in an Outside magazine article and that it was really bad. Thinking, I always feel that way about my magazine articles, I figured it couldn’t be too bad.
But it is. Check it out!
First what’s with the headline? Desperate Housewife? Pam Reed? It’s just insane. Then they used awful pictures of Pam and, of course, wonderful pictures of Dean.
Throughout Pam says that Dean is a nice guy, etc., etc. Just the classy response we would expect from our Pam. While Dean does what he usually does, says something derogatory and snide, about Pam.
The article makes it seem like they are in competition. Let’s be clear. Pam ran 300 continuous miles. Dean hasn’t done that. He didn’t do it when he said he was going to. He hasn’t done it since Pam did. Why is he even in the article?
Let’s write the editors at: letters@outsidemag.com and tell them that this is ridiculous blatant favoring of the male athlete over the female. Further, as Dean is a vitamin salesperson, did he get such favorable treatment because he purchase advertising in Outside magazine or some of his sponsors do? You have to wonder.
