Walking the walk
I have spent the last few days talking with representatives of a company that professes to support personal growth and the belief that everyone has a little bit of god inside them. Sounds great, eh?
Except in each of these interactions, I have really been treated poorly, talked down to, belittled and misunderstood. Each attempt to clarify and remain positive was met with escalating nastiness. It’s fairly shocking. (And before you think I am paranoid, I have shared the emails, voice mails and conversations with our team and they have been shocked as well!)
It’s about walking the walk. If you are going to talk about health, well-being and the believe that everyone has a bit of God inside them, you need to really portray that in each and every interaction with people. At the very least make some effort to be polite.
It reminds me of what Pat Croce says about customer service. Any interaction with any one of your employees can sour someone on your entire organization, just like I am soured on this organization.
The truth is that it will be a long time before anyone at the Open Grove will be interested in interacting with this company again. We aren’t holding a grudge; it’s just really important to walk the walk. Period.
I also can’t help wondering when we haven’t walked our walk. When I have blown someone’s trust in the Open Grove. This experience has been a great lesson in walking the walk.
