Fun on a Friday
Have you heard this? A new Shel Silverstein, author of the A light in the Attic & The Giving Tree
, book has just been released. Completed before his death in 1999, this book is called, Runny Babbit
. They say it took the wild mind of Shel Silverstein 20 years to complete this book! This book is filled with quirky language that will tickle your mind.
I am not talking about something from Clockwork Orange. This language is called “Spoonerism” after Reverend William Archibald Spooner who loved to change words by changing a few letters in the words. You simply have to try this out loud:
RUNNY BAKES A TATH
Runny had to bake a tath
Before they’d sive him gupper.
He got so tungry in the hub,
He ate the rat of mubber.
He chewed his dubber rucky up,
He gulped boap subbles, too.
But what upset his mamma most
Was shrinking the dampoo.
Now say it and try not to laugh!
BTW, if you would like to try your hand at some spoonerisms, we will send a copy of this book to the most interesting one we receive! (Remember to keep it clean!)
You can write them here or email me - we will consider anything you send.
