Fun with names!
I found the Baby Name Wizard link on the Freakonomics blog and spent about a 1/2 hour amusing myself checking out all of the names in my family. My nieces’ and nephew’s names? Very common. I started checking Open Grove names - no one names their child “Darryl” anymore, sorry about that, while “Brian” remains fairly popular. No one ever named their child “Guinivere” so we are wondering about our Gwenie. Sorry Paul, your name lost popularity somewhere in the 1990s.
The one thing this name wizard does explain is why everyone has an “Aunt Betty” but few people have friends (under the age of 60 years old) who are named Betty. It’s because Betty was ranked number 2 in popularity of names in 1930 and dropped to 102nd place in 1960 and is currently 854th place. These small oddities of life can in fact be explained.
