And who are the adults here?
I have been asked and asked and asked about this…. And this is what I think:
4 selfish jerks sat down to play poker in Santa Clarita California this year. The players? In one chair, we have a District Attorney desperate to save face and finally prove a criminal case. Across from him sits a celebrity, who has had such extensive vanity plastic surgery that his surgeons had to use a piece of cartilage from his ear to fix his nose (History of his face) in order to appear in court. The third chair holds a court system designed to give a predator more protection than his victims. And the final seat is taken by parents who willingly take money, status, toys and privilege only to cry fowl later. 4 selfish jerks sat down to play poker in Santa Clarita California. The stakes? The lives of at least 3 young men and potentially the lives of three small children of unknown parentage.
Each player had some power to protect these children. Each player misused their power. The District Attorney was willing to allow children to be publicly cross examined by the best defense team money can buy about their most shameful experience - their sexual abuse. The parents used their child to get close to a celebrity, who in turn provided them with financial and emotional gain. These same parent who when given the chance to protect their children from public scandal refused to fold their cards. The celebrity was willing to use the children. Period. Use children to regain his own “lost” childhood, use children to keep from “growing up”, and that’s just what he admits to! And a court system which usually allows children to testify on video tape, in closed session, away from the press, and usually keeps a child’s name confidential, refused to protect these children from what will be life long shame and embarrassment.
Who are the adults here? Where are the adults who are willing to set aside their egos, money, status, and use their power to protect these children? Who is willing to do what is hard in order to ensure that a child will live a happy healthy life? Who will protect them now?
Who is going to protect them now?
