Developmentally Appropriate Parenting?
In my conversation with Dr. Kimberlee Whaley, she spoke of “developmentally appropriate parenting”. She defines developmentally appropriate parenting as parenting that takes into consideration the child’s developmental stage. A parent then would expect the child to behave and interact differently depending on their developmental stage or age.
It’s an interesting idea. This type of parenting requires parents to be aware of what is being heard as well as what they are saying. While she describes some of this in her segment (Seeds of personality), we asked if she could share more information with us.
This morning she sent us a .pdf file of a flyer she created at COSI We thought we would pass it along to you. To read more about developmentally appropriate parenting, click here. Enjoy!
