The whole world?
I have been asked why The Open Grove frequently has Buddhist priests, practitioners and others on the program. While I cannot speak for everyone involved in the Open Grove, I don’t believe that anyone defines himself or herself as a Buddhist. Yet we are frequently drawn to the messages of Buddhist psychology and practice - make friends with yourself, meditate, open yourself to the world, practice the lovingkindness (Metta) meditation.and others.
In researching a quote that Oriah Mountain Dreamer said when she was here, I found this quote by Suzuki Roshi:
“When we inhale, the air comes into the inner world. When we exhale, the air goes out to the outer world. The inner world is limitless, and the outer world is also limitless. We say ‘inner world’ or ‘outer world’ but actually, there is just one whole world.”
~ Shunryu Suzuki-roshi (1905-1971), Japanese Buddhist scholar & Zen master, founder of the San Francisco Zen Center (http://www.zaadz.com/quotes/authors/shunryu_suzuki-roshi/.
Here Suzuki Roshi expresses what we believe in the Open Grove. We are all one Grove - we are all one whole world. This is the beauty of the human experience.
This is why we are interested in Buddhist thought.
