Music in the Grove
Have you ever had an experience where the whole world stops? All of your thoughts and feelings dissipate and you are simply present? In 1984, at the Berkeley Jazz Festival, I had an experience like that. It happened as Stanley Jordan began to play. I remember the color of the sky and the clouds. I remember the man sitting to my right. All of the anxiety, fear and confusion of my college brain left as the entire audience listened in a stunned silence to something so beautiful that the sky seemed to glimmer. Everything slipped away as this thin, 18 year old man-boy began to play. Amazing….
Stanley Jordan played in Denver last Friday night. And again, I was completely mesmerized by the sound of his music. It was amazing to see someone so young, and so dedicated make such wonderful music. I talked to him about the Open Grove after the performance and hopefully (keep your fingers crossed) he will talk with us about his music therapy project.
If you haven’t had the honor to hear him play, take a moment and check out Stanley Jordan. You won’t be sorry.
