A solution?
I went to see my new/old doctor with our new insurance. She laughed at all the trouble I have had. She agreed with the insulin resistance syndrome and was supportive of my plan - diet, exercise with blood pressure medication to keep the damage down. She was open to having any and every test done. She referred me to a hypertension clinic and said I could come back to see her any time. Cool, huh?
My new/old doctor said the most astute thing. She said that she joined the large HMO because she found that working for herself was actually working for a large HMO and that at least at a large HMO, you have the resources available to you to get the treatment your client’s need. I hope that turns out to be the case.
As I continue to learn more about this insulin resistance syndrome, I see more of my friends diagnosed with borderline diabetes. It’s heart breaking to see 40 year old women (mostly) monitoring their blood sugars. Diabetes is such an awful, awful disease. I am frightened to see my friends and family become diabetic!
I am now really grateful for my hypertension. Without this early warning sign, I would have continued on and would most likely be diabetic in a few years. I feel like a pretty lucky girl!
