It’s a process

Dr. Mirkin told me that the reason people aren’t able to manage their blood pressure and lipids through their diet is that it’s very difficult to stay on the diet. At the time, I thought that was preposterous. The diet seemed so easy. And now?

I didn’t consider the times when my brother-in-law would ask if I was “still eating oatmeal all day?” or a bowl full of warm tortilla chips or a night out to celebrate a friend’s birthday. All of these are officially “off” the diet.

Don’t get me wrong. I am staying with the diet most meals. Last week, I was only off for 3 dinners. That’s pretty good - I think. But it’s still not really enough. My stubborn blood pressure fluxuates between 150/100 and 130/80. I need to be doing more.

I have been doing more aerobic exercise on the weekends. I now lift weights 3 times a week, do yoga 2 days a week and do aerobic exercise 2 days a week (including intervals on Sundays). Overall I think it’s a good plan. I am slowly losing weight and percent fat.

I guess it’s a process.
