At the doctors - part 3
On to the 3rd doctor last Friday…. My friend Bob referred me to his “personal” doctor saying that he wasn’t too stupid and didn’t lie. I was able to get an appointment almost immediately AND he takes my insurance.
He was actually pretty nice. We reviewed all of the former doctors and their recommendations. He spoke of concern for my kidneys saying that hypertension in someone my age can mean kidney trouble. So I took more blood tests and for the first time, a urine test. (3 doctors, 1 urine test - go figure.)
He said that in his experience losing 20% of my body weight and exercise lowered blood pressure. Here’s the catch. I asked him if it was just pounds (because I am muscular) or was it percent fat. He said that it has to be pounds. Pounds. Now that’s also a different story.
So I continue on my diet and now am looking at losing some pounds. I guess I won’t be the Incredible Hulk after all. Hmm, I wonder if Lou has high blood pressure….

P.S. The doctor called on Monday. My kidney’s look fine and everything else is lower. My Lp(a) is down to 59 (from 74), so it’s more Niacin and Fish oil for me! I see him again in a month. Anyone in Denver - email me and I’ll give you his name. A good doctor is really hard to find!
